Elizabeth P

Instruments:

Hello! I am a performer and teacher who loves musical variety. I am classically trained as a singer, pianist, and clarinetist, and have also appeared on-stage playing everything from tuba to pipe organ! Professionally, I have sung with Michigan Opera Theatre and Toledo Opera choruses, and have performed leading roles with Opera in the Ozarks, BGSU's Theatre and Opera Theatre, and Indiana University Opera Theatre. I have performed as a soloist with a myriad of ensembles, medieval to modern. As a member of Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, I have performed around the United States, and this year brings solo performances in Italy and Canada.

Desiree J

Instruments:

My love of the musical and dramatic arts has led to my passion for singing opera. Over the past dozen years, I have sung, acted, and danced in numerous staged theatre, musical theatre, and opera productions. I recently graduated from Baldwin Wallace University where I was fortunate enough to have sung the principal role of Zerlina in Mozart's D on Giovanni and the lead role of Josephine in Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore. At Bowling Green State University, I originated the soprano role of Nora, in the world premiere of Andrew Selle's opera It Could Be. In April 2014, I made my Opera Chorus debut at The Toledo Opera's production of Gounod's Faust. Through competitive national auditions in February 2014, I was one of 32 singers selected to participate in the OperaWorks 2014 Emerging Artist Program.

More Information About Piano Lessons

As students will need to practice the content taught during their lessons, they will need to invest in a digital piano or a keyboard. There are a number of different keyboards on the market, however we suggests looking to buy one with 61 keys or more. Keyboards with weighted action keys are most like that of a real piano, and are recommended. Keyboards are often a cheaper and more convenient option that digital pianos or a real piano, as they can be transported around and played using headphones. That said, if buying an acoustic piano is within your budget, it will provide the most satisfying learning experience.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
Our teachers at Musika design their piano lessons around the needs and ability of each student. This means that lessons cater to a wide range of ability and experience levels, from those just starting to play the piano for the very first time, to students with already established skills and experience. For new learners, the aim is to get them playing simple songs as quickly as possible. To do so means teaching them the basics, such as scales, hand position, fingering technique, and chords. These are the essential skills for playing simple material. Beyond this, students can learn to develop their musical ear, sight read, read sheet music and chord charts, and general music theory. They will start to learn more complex chords and start applying them to more advanced compositions. Some students will already be excellent players, but want to develop particular skills, such as improvisational skills, or to study one specific type of piano playing, such as Blues or Classical piano.
We offer piano lessons for students of all ages, including adults. Whether you are a complete beginner on the instrument, or you have not played the piano in many years, our knowledgable instructors can definitely assist you in your journey of developing your musical skills.
Our recommended starting age for piano is 4 or 5, with students capable of playing the keys properly and with sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. Young students also should have begun learning to count and to read. No matter what the age may be, the piano is an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of music, including music theory and basic composition techniques.
