Featured Waterville Piano Teachers

Elizabeth P

Instruments:

Hello! I am a performer and teacher who loves musical variety. I am classically trained as a singer, pianist, and clarinetist, and have also appeared on-stage playing everything from tuba to pipe organ! Professionally, I have sung with Michigan Opera Theatre and Toledo Opera choruses, and have performed leading roles with Opera in the Ozarks, BGSU's Theatre and Opera Theatre, and Indiana University Opera Theatre. I have performed as a soloist with a myriad of ensembles, medieval to modern. As a member of Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, I have performed around the United States, and this year brings solo performances in Italy and Canada.

Desiree J

Instruments:

My love of the musical and dramatic arts has led to my passion for singing opera. Over the past dozen years, I have sung, acted, and danced in numerous staged theatre, musical theatre, and opera productions. I recently graduated from Baldwin Wallace University where I was fortunate enough to have sung the principal role of Zerlina in Mozart's D on Giovanni and the lead role of Josephine in Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore. At Bowling Green State University, I originated the soprano role of Nora, in the world premiere of Andrew Selle's opera It Could Be. In April 2014, I made my Opera Chorus debut at The Toledo Opera's production of Gounod's Faust. Through competitive national auditions in February 2014, I was one of 32 singers selected to participate in the OperaWorks 2014 Emerging Artist Program.

More Information About Piano Lessons

Keyboards are a convenient option for practice and lessons as they afford students the options of portability and the use of headphones for practice. They are also cheaper and more space-conscious than an acoustic piano. Look to buy a keyboard that has a minimum of 61 keys, and a weighted hammer action. This will ensure your keyboard closest resembles the playability of a real piano. The most popular brand are Roland, Yamaha and Korg. If it is possible, buying an acoustic piano will offer the most rewarding learning experience for students, and provides market resale value.
In home lessons are what 90% of our students request. Not only does this provide a convenient means to study music, but we also notice no difference in the quality of lessons done in home or in studio. They are typically structured the same. The main benefit of in-home lessons is the reduction in travel time to another location, and additionaly the student may be able to focus better in your own home since they are familiar with it. Piano lessons in the home offer a practical choice for your family for learning the skill of playing a musical instrument.
Whether you have an interest in learning to play contemporary, jazz, blues or classical piano, our piano teachers can help develop your playing through one-on-one lessons. Throughout your piano lessons, you will cover a wide range of skills ranging from basic playing, to music theory, right the way through more advanced piano study. For those just starting out, the essential elements of piano that you will learn are hand position, fingering technique and applying these skills as you learn major and minor scales and simple songs using one hand. You will progress to learning chords, such as major chords and start to put these into practice by learning simple songs. Our lessons will cover the theory side of piano, such as reading music, sight reading and chord charts. Experienced players can work on certain aspects of their playing, such as improvisational skills, genre-specific playing such as jazz, or developing their repertoire.
Learning a new musical skill as an adult is a great way to keep your brain fresh! We have many adult students actively taking lessons with us, and this actually represents around 50% of our student base. Our instructors will offer an individually tailored lesson plan to the needs of an adult student. You will learn the technique of the instrument, specific repetoire suited to your skill level, and learn how to read music and sight read.
Learning to play the piano as a child is a fun, rewarding and vastly beneficial to their overall development. Children can develop their motor-skills, dexterity and coordination through technical piano playing - learning scales, chords and correct fingering. Young students can also develop their concentration, listening skills and ability to master complex thought processes through theory, repertoire and student-teacher feedback. Learning to play the piano can also be character building, such as instilling a hard-working attitude, developing self-discipline and confidence through practice, taking exams, enter competitions or performing recitals.
