For students just starting out, a keyboard or digital piano is a great entry level alternative to a real acoustic piano. We suggest trying to buy a keyboard with 88 keys. Keyboards with a weighted hammer action are recommended as their touch response and general feel will be most similar to that of an acoustic piano. If it is at all possible, consider buying an acoustic piano - upright pianos are less space consuming - as this will provide students with a greater level of satisfaction during their practice time. Popular keyboard brands include Yamaha, Casio and Roland.
In home lessons are what 90% of our students request. Not only does this provide a convenient means to study music, but we also notice no difference in the quality of lessons done in home or in studio. They are typically structured the same. The main benefit of in-home lessons is the reduction in travel time to another location, and additionaly the student may be able to focus better in your own home since they are familiar with it. Piano lessons in the home offer a practical choice for your family for learning the skill of playing a musical instrument.
There is no specific teaching method that all Musika teachers adhere to. All students will have lessons customized to their needs and goals as lessons progress. If there is a specific teaching style you are looking for, we will keep that in mind as we make your teacher match. Many teachers will have a few method books that they use for lessons, which will include exercises and techniques for practicing. All lessons will cover aspects of learning notes, proper technique, ear training, and how to read music.
We offer piano lessons for students of all ages, including adults. Whether you are a complete beginner on the instrument, or you have not played the piano in many years, our knowledgable instructors can definitely assist you in your journey of developing your musical skills.
Children are recommended to start piano lessons no earlier than age 4 or 5. The attention span and personality of the child are something to consider when thinking of taking lessons. Even if your child has no evident musical inclinations, piano lessons offer a great option for introducing your child to music. During their lessons children will learn how to read music, fundamentals of musicianship and sight reading, music theory techniques, and ear training.
