Norman T

Instruments:

I have enjoyed teaching and helping students of all ages for 22 years in achieving their goals in learning to play their instruments.  Educated at Columbus State University with a Music Education degree, I teach many instruments including piano, guitar, including Classical style, banjo, saxophone, clarinet and flute.  If you would like to start on the trumpet or trombone, I can help you as well.  I specialize in working with the novice musician, giving them a solid foundation in instrumental technique and musical knowledge.  I can also help the more accomplished player advance to the level he or she desires.

Jason P

Instruments:

As a performer, I have played in various ensemble and groups in Atlanta and around the country. I've shared the stage or recorded with many local, national and international artists, including Debbie Gibson, The Four Freshman, Lizz Wright, Chris Potter, Scott Wendholt, John Fedchock, Michael Abene, Michael Johnson, Julie Dexter, Ronnie Cuber and many others. Locally, Jason has performed in the majority of the clubs and festivals in Atlanta, including the Atlanta Jazz Festival (1998-2008, various groups) and the Atlanta Montreau Music festival. He has had the opportunity to perform in various Latin, R&B, rock and electronic bands. I have performed in various chamber groups, including theatre productions of "Groucho Marx", “Jekyll and Hyde”, “Grease” and "A Grand Night for Singing", all productions on flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone. I have maintained a private teaching studio since I was 17 years old, teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, music theory and beginning piano

Candace C

Instruments:

Hello! I am warm and friendly, assertive when necessary, most of all I push students to go a step further in each lesson, once I see and hear what they could be capable of if challenged. I motivate and embrace each student’s originality while helping them improve and have fun! A little about me, I received a Master's in Vocal Performance with a focus on vocal technique, breath coordination, crossover vocal style, coaching, and dramatic interpretation. As a Singer and Songwriter myself I can advise on what is needed to enhance your talent and develop vocal stamina with proper vocal technique and exercises to help reduce strain and fatigue while doing shows.

Richard R

Instruments:

I have been a professional musician and teacher for over 25 years. I have taught as an adjunct Professor of Jazz Guitar at Miami-Dade Community College. I have also taught as a general music teacher for the Broward Public Schools in south Florida and for the Cobb County District Schools in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I have studied guitar privately for 15 years with Vince Bredice who has published many books on guitar for Mel Bay Publishers, one of the largest music publishers in the world. I have done private studies in Early Music of the Renaissance period with Joseph Iadone a disciple of Paul Hindemith. I attended seminars in Jazz Guitar with legendary guitarists Joe DiOrio, Tal Farlow and Jack Wilkins. My philosophy of teaching is to help the student play the music that he or she wants to play and give the student a practical understanding of the guitar and music theory. I teach the skills that enable the student to apply themselves to all forms of music. Each student is an individual and is taught in a manner that inspires his or her personality.

More Information About Piano Lessons

We recommend that students get either a full size piano, or a weighted keyboard for their lessons. It is very important to set up a practice schedule every day. You can purchase a basic keyboard at a local music store or an electronic store. Some students may also wish to rent a piano if they do not wish to invest in buying one right away. Digital keyboards offer a good choice for the beginning student because they are portable and easily stored in your home. Keyboards will start at 65 keys at the smallest amount and increase to a full size keyboard of 88 keys. The most common brands of keyboard are Casio, Yamaha, and Korg.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
Our piano lessons take place in a one-on-one setting and are customized to the requirements of each individual student. Students vary in ability from beginner to advanced, and naturally have different lessons requirements for each stage of their development. Put broadly, beginners will cover such aspects to piano playing as; posture, hand positions, fingering technique, scales, chords and applying these things to simple songs. They will also start to develop their knowledge of music theory, reading chord charts and sheet music. Intermediates will start to take these concepts further, but learning different chords variations, such as diminished, augments, slash and 7th chords, as well as improving their speed and playing more complex compositions. Advanced students can develop playing skills such as glissando, improv and working with different piano modes, such as Dorian, Mixolydian and Aeolin. They may also like to study a specific genre - usually Jazz or Blues piano.
Many older students are fulfilling a long standing ambition by taking piano lessons. Some students may have had lessons when they were younger and want to re-learn and others are simply looking for a new hobby. Whatever the aim or reason, there are many benefits to piano lessons for older students. Learning the piano can keep you mentally active, help maintain dexterity, improve your hearing and stimulate the brain in a creative way. Older students can develop basic technique and music theory quite quickly, as their concentration, thinking skills and self-discipline are more advanced than that of children.
Due to the attention span of very young children, we advise that students begin their piano lessons no younger than age 4 or 5. Piano lessons are a great way to introduce an instrument for the first time to a younger child, as learning piano will teach them basic musicianship skills like rhythm and harmony, and how to read sheet music and chords.
