I grew up in a family of musicians and learned how to play the piano and read music at the age of five. With my father being an Orchestra Conductor, the sound of classical music was present at home all the time. I started my 12 years long musical education at Conservatory Manuel Saumell when I was 11, continuing at Conservatory Amadeo Roldan and ending with a Bachelor degree in Classical Percussion at the Superior Institute of Arts in Havana. I always like to know what is the goal of each of my students. What style or genre they like as well as if they are aiming to be a solo performer or part of a band or ensemble. I like to start students on method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this will teach students basic music theory as well as how to read on a staff. If also like contemporary music, I will teach them how to read chords letters, so to play styles such as jazz, pop, rock and contemporary gospel music. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage my students by setting realistic goals and proving homework after each lesson to perfect for the next lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to his or her learning style. Read More
