As a performer, I have played in various ensemble and groups in Atlanta and around the country. I've shared the stage or recorded with many local, national and international artists, including Debbie Gibson, The Four Freshman, Lizz Wright, Chris Potter, Scott Wendholt, John Fedchock, Michael Abene, Michael Johnson, Julie Dexter, Ronnie Cuber and many others. Locally, Jason has performed in the majority of the clubs and festivals in Atlanta, including the Atlanta Jazz Festival (1998-2008, various groups) and the Atlanta Montreau Music festival. He has had the opportunity to perform in various Latin, R&B, rock and electronic bands. I have performed in various chamber groups, including theatre productions of "Groucho Marx", “Jekyll and Hyde”, “Grease” and "A Grand Night for Singing", all productions on flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone. I have maintained a private teaching studio since I was 17 years old, teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, music theory and beginning piano

Katherine M

Instruments:

I love music and have studied piano since I was six years old.  I also studied organ and clarinet briefly.  My degrees are in Psychology and Communications.  I worked for state and federal government agencies and was a writer and producer for CNN/Atlanta for ten years.  I enjoy teaching piano and now have six students ranging in age from 4 to 36 years of age.  I also enjoy tennis and am a former lawa student, but found the latter not to my liking.

Nicole N

Instruments:

I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a teacher.  I have spent the last seventeen years working with children of all ages and sharing my love of music as a classroom music teacher and private piano teacher.  I am passionate about connecting with the children I teach.  I love watching them smile and grow up into such amazing human beings.  I am also passionate about music.  I enjoy listening to live music, performing music and dancing to music.  It is a big part of my life.  My husband and I have recently moved to Roswell from Texas, and I am looking forward to teaching new piano students.

Susan Lark S

Instruments:

I absolutely love teaching music and watching my students grow in their musical skills and confidence!  I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and studied clarinet with Dr. Theodore Jahn and piano with Margaret Strahl.  While at UGA, I played with the Redocat Marching Band, Symphonic Band and various woodwind ensembles.  Recently I have been playing clarinet and piano with the Gwinnett Community Band and volunteer with different homeshool band groups.  I have also played piano for church and weddings and volunteered with the children's music ministry.

Aubrey C

Instruments:

I am a professional educator in Georgia’s public school system. I have a passion for teaching and learning and believe that students should be well rounded individuals in their academics, including music and the arts. I am very skilled in working with diverse student populations and students of various learning styles and abilities. As a gifted education teacher my background in music plays an integral role in my student’s success as I am able to integrate music and other subject matters into a student’s learning. I have recently taught at the Summer Institute for the Gifted at Emory University and enjoy teaching younger students just as much as I enjoy teaching older students. I received my B.S. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and M.Ed. degree from Cambridge College. I began playing the piano at the age of 8 when my parents noticed that I had a gift for music and immediately enrolled me with a local piano teacher.  I have been playing the piano ever since and it is my most passionate of interests.

More Information About Piano Lessons

Keyboards are a convenient option for practice and lessons as they afford students the options of portability and the use of headphones for practice. They are also cheaper and more space-conscious than an acoustic piano. Look to buy a keyboard that has a minimum of 61 keys, and a weighted hammer action. This will ensure your keyboard closest resembles the playability of a real piano. The most popular brand are Roland, Yamaha and Korg. If it is possible, buying an acoustic piano will offer the most rewarding learning experience for students, and provides market resale value.
Taking piano lessons from the comfort of your own home is the most convenient way of learning to the play the instrument. Finding the additional time out of a busy schedule to transport your child to and from their lessons can be difficult, making home lessons a convenient, time and money saving option. The only thing necessary for home lessons is a keyboard or piano to play on! There is no difference between the lesson content of studio or home lessons - only the location is different. Home lessons help provide a safe, familiar and comfortable learning environment for students.
Musika teachers do not adhere to one specific method for all their students. Most teachers will customize their lesson plans to the individual needs and skill level of the student. If you are looking for any specific teaching styles or methods to be used in your lessons, please let us know during the matching process and we can try to assign you to the teacher who will best suit your needs. Generally all lessons will cover topics focused on learning to read music, practice skills, music theory and musicianship, ear training, and rhythm skills.
Many older students are fulfilling a long standing ambition by taking piano lessons. Some students may have had lessons when they were younger and want to re-learn and others are simply looking for a new hobby. Whatever the aim or reason, there are many benefits to piano lessons for older students. Learning the piano can keep you mentally active, help maintain dexterity, improve your hearing and stimulate the brain in a creative way. Older students can develop basic technique and music theory quite quickly, as their concentration, thinking skills and self-discipline are more advanced than that of children.
Our recommended starting age for piano is 4 or 5, with students capable of playing the keys properly and with sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. Young students also should have begun learning to count and to read. No matter what the age may be, the piano is an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of music, including music theory and basic composition techniques.
