Greg M

Instruments:

A lifelong music student who began piano lessons at the age of seven. He sang in church long before that. He studied at the Birmingham Southern University Conservatory at age fourteen in classical music. It was then that he became a church pianist as well. He loves to play different styles of music including show tunes, gospel, and pop. He has accompanied school choirs, and churches on the piano for several years. He is also a singer and had a choral focus as a music education major.

LaTasha D

Instruments:

TashaRenee was 3 years old singing her first solo, “God Is”, at church and she hasn’t shut up since. She says “singing is just a part of who I am."  TaRe is a great eclectic vocalist that has been singing all of her life.  Although she has gospel roots, she decided to learn more about music as an undergraduate and graduate student in the Music-vocal performance degree programs.  She has been a part of several casts in Operas across the nation, with her professional Opera debut being the Strawberry Woman in Porgy and Bess in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She also studied voice in Italy and was able to perform gospel music at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and classical music at the Teatro Verdi.  Not only has she been featured among some of Classical music’s celebrities; she has also sung background for some the best in Gospel, R&B, and Country music in the business.   In the Gospel arena she has done background for Lisa McClendon, Leon Timbo, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Karen Clark-Sheard, Vicki Winans, Marvin Sapp, Dorinda Clark-Cole just to name a few.  She has sung in the Full Gospel Baptist Mass Recording Choir, Life Center Cathedral Mass Choir, and the Louisiana State Full Gospel Recording Choir where she was also a featured soloist. She has sung background for the powerful Mrs. Ann Nesby, Eric Benet, Michael McDonald, and Wynonna Judd.  Recently she was one of the featured background singers for the AARP Songs of Soul concert at Philips Arena. She worked with such notable artists as: Debbie Allen, Ann Nesby, Chaka Khan, Pastor Shirley Ceasar, CeCe Winans, Queen Latifah, Patti Austin, Yolanda Adams, Dionne Warwick, Paris Bennett, and little Miss Jamiah from the movie August Rush.  Currently she is working on her own project that will energize and captivate the audience in a nostalgic, yet unique and unconventional way; pushing the boundaries of how we see music today! TashaRenee has also been seen in several professional movies. She was in the Lifetime original movie For One Night with Raven Symone and also apart of Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail to name a few. She has acted in several traveling plays, musicals, and operas across America.  TashaRenee has been teaching piano, voice and acting privately since 1999. She has been training choirs since she was 13 years old. She brings a wealth of God given wisdom, educational knowledge and experience to the table for all of her students. Allow TashaRenee to help you perfect the gift within you!

Candace C

Instruments:

Hello! I am warm and friendly, assertive when necessary, most of all I push students to go a step further in each lesson, once I see and hear what they could be capable of if challenged. I motivate and embrace each student’s originality while helping them improve and have fun! A little about me, I received a Master's in Vocal Performance with a focus on vocal technique, breath coordination, crossover vocal style, coaching, and dramatic interpretation. As a Singer and Songwriter myself I can advise on what is needed to enhance your talent and develop vocal stamina with proper vocal technique and exercises to help reduce strain and fatigue while doing shows.

Tyrone S

I consider myself a professional in the industry. I am on time. I don’t drink or smoke. I don’t have hang-ups or personal issues. I play what is required (and only that). I have tons of references and connections in the industry. I am professionally trained by some of the top-knotch drummers in the industry, including a one-on-one lesson with Dave Weckl, the master himself.

Nathaniel S

More Information About Piano Lessons

If purchasing an acoustic piano is not an option, we recommend that students look to buy a keyboard or digital piano for their lessons and practice. When buying a keyboard or digital piano, look to purchase one with 61 or more keys, as well as one with weighted hammer action. Having more keys, as well as weighted keys will most resemble the responsiveness and feel of an acoustic piano. Typically, keyboards are a cheaper option, they take up less space, are portable and can be played with headphones. Some of the most popular brands of keyboard or digital piano are Yamaha, Roland and Casio.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
Our teachers at Musika design their piano lessons around the needs and ability of each student. This means that lessons cater to a wide range of ability and experience levels, from those just starting to play the piano for the very first time, to students with already established skills and experience. For new learners, the aim is to get them playing simple songs as quickly as possible. To do so means teaching them the basics, such as scales, hand position, fingering technique, and chords. These are the essential skills for playing simple material. Beyond this, students can learn to develop their musical ear, sight read, read sheet music and chord charts, and general music theory. They will start to learn more complex chords and start applying them to more advanced compositions. Some students will already be excellent players, but want to develop particular skills, such as improvisational skills, or to study one specific type of piano playing, such as Blues or Classical piano.
"We have many adult students taking lessons. Whether you have studied music as a child, or are wanting to learn a new skill, music lessons are a great avenue to go with! Not only do they keep you young and energized, but our teachers are also able to be ""on your level"" and instruct you in a way you can understand."
Piano lessons for children will focus on learning the fundamentals of the technique of the instrument and learning to read music and rhythm. We suggest beginning piano lessons no earlier than age 4, due to the attention span of the child, as well as the strength they have in their hands for playing. Piano Lessons will offer an excellent introduction to learning music for a child. Music theory and musicianship skills will also be taught during the lessons. Piano lessons are a great choice for introducing the art of music to your child!
