Featured Adams park Piano Teachers

Don M

Instruments:

I have spent my entire adult life as a working musician. I came to teaching after a lengthy career as a performer & recording artist. I am very well versed in jazz, pop and R&B and bring an extraordinary amount of knowledge to the table. My background is quite eclectic and includes a thorough grounding in classical piano literature as well. As a performer first, I bring knowledge (and shortcuts) that most teachers do not. Music has been good to me and I feel an obligation to pass it on to others. Most importantly, I can impart the information effectively to children as well as adults. Don't Just Listen to Music… Play It!

Greg M

Instruments:

A lifelong music student who began piano lessons at the age of seven. He sang in church long before that. He studied at the Birmingham Southern University Conservatory at age fourteen in classical music. It was then that he became a church pianist as well. He loves to play different styles of music including show tunes, gospel, and pop. He has accompanied school choirs, and churches on the piano for several years. He is also a singer and had a choral focus as a music education major.

Richard R

Instruments:

I have been a professional musician and teacher for over 25 years. I have taught as an adjunct Professor of Jazz Guitar at Miami-Dade Community College. I have also taught as a general music teacher for the Broward Public Schools in south Florida and for the Cobb County District Schools in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I have studied guitar privately for 15 years with Vince Bredice who has published many books on guitar for Mel Bay Publishers, one of the largest music publishers in the world. I have done private studies in Early Music of the Renaissance period with Joseph Iadone a disciple of Paul Hindemith. I attended seminars in Jazz Guitar with legendary guitarists Joe DiOrio, Tal Farlow and Jack Wilkins. My philosophy of teaching is to help the student play the music that he or she wants to play and give the student a practical understanding of the guitar and music theory. I teach the skills that enable the student to apply themselves to all forms of music. Each student is an individual and is taught in a manner that inspires his or her personality.

Quandrell C

Instruments:

Throughout my career, I have performed as solo and group artist with with various opera and theater companies and performance venues throughout the world. I am also a composer in the making!  Currently, I am working on my first major musical, which is called "Beyond The Blues."  I have also had the humbling opportunity of being featured in the media and honored through several awards for my craft.

Felix G

Instruments:

I started studying music when I was 5 on violin. At age of 6 I added piano. At middle school I started learning clarinet and saxophone to enrich my background. A bit later I added guitar. I was taking the most comprehensive classes which included ensembles, chorus, orchestra, band, solfeggio and music theory.  I continued my music education at Music College on violin for another 4 years. My family moved to Israel, and I continued my education at Jerusalem Music Academy on violin and guitar, and graduated with Bachelor Degree in Music Performance and Education.

More Information About Piano Lessons

Keyboards are a convenient option for practice and lessons as they afford students the options of portability and the use of headphones for practice. They are also cheaper and more space-conscious than an acoustic piano. Look to buy a keyboard that has a minimum of 61 keys, and a weighted hammer action. This will ensure your keyboard closest resembles the playability of a real piano. The most popular brand are Roland, Yamaha and Korg. If it is possible, buying an acoustic piano will offer the most rewarding learning experience for students, and provides market resale value.
Music lessons in your home offer a convenient option to learning music! Most of our students request in home lessons for this reason. As long as you have a piano or keyboard in your home, then you should be all set to start your lessons! Children who have never played an instrument before may feel more comfortable studying in their own home, as it may be less intimidating than going somewhere else. In home lessons decrease the time and gas money spent traveling to a different location.
Piano lessons are usually structured around a series of method books which are recommended by the teacher, and can be purchased at a local music store or online. Lessons for a beginner usually start with familiarizing the student with the piano as well as beginner level technique. This will include learning the notes on the piano, and learning basic scales, like major and minor scales. Beginners will start by learning how to play scales using the correct finger techniques with both bands until they develop their speed and co-ordination. Eventually students will start off by playing simple melodies - often nursery rhymes - that utilize and put the fingering techniques into practice. Students will also learn the various types of chord, from simple major and minor chords, through to 7th chords, slash chords and diminished chords. Students will also develop their sight reading and music theory knowledge throughout their lessons.
Learning a new musical skill as an adult is a great way to keep your brain fresh! We have many adult students actively taking lessons with us, and this actually represents around 50% of our student base. Our instructors will offer an individually tailored lesson plan to the needs of an adult student. You will learn the technique of the instrument, specific repetoire suited to your skill level, and learn how to read music and sight read.
Piano is a great first instrument for children who have never studied music before. Our instructors specialize in teaching younger children, and will develop an individual lesson plan for your child. The youngest age that we recommend starting piano lessons is age 4. The instructor will be able to teach your child to read music, beginning music theory and musician skills, and how to develop a love for playing the instrument.
