For beginners I start with Nancy Fabers books. There are colorful pictures and notes and easy steps on how to start to play and enjoy. I had a very successful year with Nancy Fabers materials. Once the children know the music alphabet, they can play any song they like. With advanced students, I start from what they know already and continue to explore all musical elements. Nikolaev (American edition),which means starting to read simultaneously treble and bass clefs, scales, etudes by Cherni, "Childrens Albums" by Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Inventions by J.S.Bach etc. It is the solid academical approach.
