I am a graduate of Texas Tech University. I began teaching privately in 1985 on the Lubbock ISD Music Tutorial Program. I went into the schools and taught students privately during class hours. I taught Tuba and Baritone Horn. In 1989 I began teaching with Lubbock Parks and Recreation in the community centers. This was more generalized. I taught Band Instruments, Voice, Guitar, Music Theory, Beginner Piano, Beginner Strings. What I consider to be my crown achievement is hearing from parents who told me that the overall academic performance of their children had improved since they began taking lessons from me. Read More

Every student is different, so my teaching approach is rarely identical from student to student. Technical training progresses as a student develops motivation through his or her practice habits. I try to encourage practice through journal entry and self-accountability. I also try to make a student's home practice a little more exciting by setting goals and explaining what will be accomplished through achieving these short-term goals. Introducing new concepts while perfecting basic technique is how I try to captivate a student's attention and excitement for music. Read More

The first question is: do you love your instrument? The second one is: how much do you want to play your instrument? The last one: why do you want do play your instrument? Then the student will receive the appropriate instructions. However, I usually improve and enlarge the students' relation to his instrument. For example, some of my students left the idea of play a musical instrument just for fun and (even though she was a pianist) became a professional in her new string instrument (the cello). The main point is, each student need to realize his/her real relationship with his/her musical instrument. I create my own custom lesson plans upon each students needs/wants. After an assessment of skills I create a plan to help the student harness in on the things that need work and polish the skill sets that are already there. Usually, I pick a good series of lesson books that we will work through together. If it is an entirely new student I work at things one at a time to make sure we're getting in all the basics and fundamentals needed for the more advanced skills. Read More

I taught at a local school district in Dallas and throughout my teaching years, I had great success by placing students in All Region bands and orchestras. And a great success by having my studnets score division one ratings in the UIL solo and esnemble contests. I am currently the Head "Royal Trumpeter" at Medieval Times, Dallas Castle. I perform most nights and when the Castle is open. I have been at the Dallas Castle since 2010. Read More
