Instruments: Violin Viola
After moving to the United States, my part-time orchestra jobs have included principal student violist of Conway Symphony Orchestra, associate principal violist of Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, and sectional violist of Texarkana Symphony Orchestra. I have gradually understood the importance of the viola section, and how to contribute to an orchestra as a single violist. Three semesters later in May 2012, I received an Artist Diploma from the UCA, and then started to working on my Master Degree there in August 2012. Read More

It is important to always have a sense of motivation in anything we do, so my goal is to see what motivates students and use that to encourage great musicianship within all my students. I focus on giving students the tools to listen for good qualities in playing such as good tone production and accurate technique because they will go into their schools and programs being leaders. It is my hope to not only train great musicians but also great leaders to influence the sound of musicians around them. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I consider it disrespectful to my colleagues and above all, it misses the point; words cannot express what music can. If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much is a musical phrase worth? With students, especially young ones, I realize there is usually a need to encourage them to practice, especially with myriad other extracurricular activities jousting for their time and attention. At this age, playing at all is 100% more effective than playing none. Read More

I believe in teaching music theory as well as technic and expression, no matter how young the student is. I believe the piano is a wonderful springboard to learning and exploring other instruments. For piano the student will study out of the theory and lesson books. Other types of finger excersizes and supplemental music will be used, there is a ton of free music online!I may also use other aides to teach the student such as flashcards, musical games, note finders, andcomputer games and sites. For the guitar I typically use Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method but then Ialso use lots of music found online free. I believe that music is something the student should learn to become passionate about. Because of this, my teaching style is more relaxed. I want the students to work on what they are working on (homework from the lessons and songs) because they actually want to improve and become better musicians. I am an open person and am willing to work through any difficulties the student may be having (including mental barriers that may be holding the student back). Read More
Instruments: Piano
For beginning and intermediate lessons I use Faber Piano Adventures. Once a student shows the ability to work independently I move on to more standard teaching literature that follows the Royal Conservatory levels from preparatory to level 10. I use theory as a way to enhance lessons depending on the seriousness of the student. I also incorporate technique and scales as a supplement when a student shows motivation and adequate practice. Instruments: Drums
My main philosophies when it comes to teaching are as follows: 1) No two students are the same, and every student is going to have unique strengths that can be exploited and expanded upon 2) Without a strong grasp of fundamental technique, timing, and stick control, progress into more advanced concepts becomes very difficult 3) Music is supposed to be FUN! If the musician doesn't feel good while playing or performing, then it isn't being done correctly. Read More
