Terry T

Instruments:

Hello, and welcome.  As stated above, my name is Terry, and I am a musician, composer, instructor, and artist living in the Salt Lake City area.  I have been involved in music since early childhood, and started playing guitar in my teens.  Today guitar is my primary instrument.  I play a variety of styles, including but not limited to, Rock of all types, Blues, Jazz, Classical, and New Age music.  I play both electric, and acoustic guitar.  I have been giving private guitar lessons since 1988 and have performed in numerous rock and blues bands since that time as well. I also perform instrumental solo acoustic guitar in a Contemporary New Age style that I create by blending several different styles together.  Currently I am working on promoting my debut solo CD, Illusions.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

Before you buy a guitar, it might be a good idea to get the advice of a teacher, or a friend or relative who already plays guitar. Their experience about local reputable music stores may be invaluable and save you a lot of time. The first options are whether to buy a new or used instrument, and whether you want to buy an acoustic or electric guitar. Student models for each can usually be purchased for around $150-200. Used instruments do not always cost less, as some instruments retain their value; notably higher quality American made guitars like Fender or Gibson.
Musika deals primarily with home lessons for students. The location is the only difference between our in-home lessons and our studio lessons. As they do not have to travel to their lessons, home guitar lessons can be highly convenient for those parents and students with a busy schedule. For younger students in particular, having guitar lessons in the comfort of their own home can be of great benefit. They will feel more safe and relaxed in familiar surroundings, allowing them to focus on learning and enjoying playing the guitar.
Our guitar students will learn how to hold, tune, and familiarize themselves with the components and notes of the guitar, basic playing techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, and learning the various chord-types that they will need in order to play their favourite songs, such as power chords, open chords and barre chords. Students will also get to learn music theory, and will cover such aspects as; reading music, learning different scales, and how to apply these different elements together as part of a full composition. Students will learn the theory and techniques that underlie a wide range of musical genres, and will have fun developing their guitar playing during their lessons. Eventually, students will get to enjoy learning and playing along to their favorite songs!
Adult guitar lessons are tailor made for your own needs and skill level. We have many adult students taking guitar lessons for the first time. After a few weeks you will increase your finger and hand strength, which will help you achieve your musical goals.
Students aged as young as 6 years old are able to start taking guitar lessons with our expert teachers here at Musika. For students of this age, we recommend that they start by using a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings. They will learn to play simple melodies using the top strings of the guitar. By about 7-8 years old, students will be forming different chords and playing along to their favorite songs. When students get to about 10-12 years old, they may become interested in a specific genre - often rock music - and decide to learn on a full-sized electric guitar.
