Featured Pennsauken Guitar Teachers

Elijah L

Instruments:

I began playing drums at the age of 9, guitar at 10, started my first rock band at 11, and I've never stopped playing music since.  After playing in the concert band, jazz band and marching band in high school, I went on to Temple University where I earned my Bachelors degree in Jazz Performance on the drum set.  Since graduating in 2006, I have been teaching both drums and guitar professionally all over the greater Philadelphia area.

Lisa T

Instruments:

I started playing piano as a young child in a small beach town in Southwestern Michigan.  I was always involved in church choir, bell choir and school choirs.  From the time I was 15, I knew that I wanted to use music to help people.  I began pursuing a degree in Music Therapy at Western Michigan University, where I studied piano with Lori Sims.  Upon graduating with a degree in music therapy, I began working as a music therapist on an inpatient psychiatric unit where I worked for 9 years with adults. Simultaneously, I taught piano lessons, Kindermusik classes, and provided music therapy to children at a local music school in Michigan.  I also have experience in providing group music education and movement classes to homeschool students.  I pursued a Masters of Public Administration in Healthcare degree and moved to the Philadelphia area to pursue a new career in that field.  Still with a passion for music, I plan on teaching piano lessons and music education for many years in the future.

Nicole T

Instruments:

Nicole received her Bachelor's of Music Business degree from Monmouth University. Studying guitar, music theory and song writing for over ten years, Nicole has created several successful original bands that were featured in issues of Billboard Magazine and has worked with Seventeen Magazine and Z100 radio station. Additionally, performances have included sharing the stage with national acts such as Drama Rama and Laura Warshauer. Nicole continues her success by performing in rock, R&B, reggae and contemporary bands as well as musical productions such as Oliver Twist. Nicole has also worked for Def Jam of Universal Music Group and has been teaching music, specifically guitar lessons, for over 9 years to students of various ages and ability levels.

Matthew M

Instruments:

I worked various summer jobs and saved up to get my first guitar when I was 12 years old.  My friends and I started a band during the first week of middle school and I've always played in a band of some sort since that day.  In 2004 I graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Industry.  Since then I've been teaching guitar for over 10 years while releasing a number of internationally distributed albums and touring the world.

John M

Instruments:

I have a love for teaching students of all levels and ages. My specialty as a guitarist is in jazz, but I bring that love for improvised music to a number of other styles: blues, rock, funk, acoustic/fingerstyle, country, folk, ska, reggae, R&B etc. I graduated from Duquesne University in 2013 with a degree in jazz performance. Pittsburgh is a great jazz town with a fantastic local scene, which was a very fun and nurturing environment for me as a student. Now I am in my second and last year at Rutgers, Mason Gross School of the Arts, working towards my masters in jazz studies. Rutgers has made me a part of a network of excellent, young jazz players, which has been a huge help to my performance career.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

The easiest way for a guitar lessons student to find out what kind of guitar to buy is to ask their teacher. Your teacher will know what local shops have fair deals, and which shops do a good job of setting up the instrument. Young students and beginners may find an acoustic guitar easier to play on and handle, while teenagers will probably want the power of an electric guitar so they can jam with their friends in the garage.
Need to save time because of your busy schedule? Why not try in-home guitar lessons. A Musika teacher can travel to your home and provide excellent quality instruction in the comfort and convenience of your own home.
Our guitar students will learn how to hold, tune, and familiarize themselves with the components and notes of the guitar, basic playing techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, and learning the various chord-types that they will need in order to play their favourite songs, such as power chords, open chords and barre chords. Students will also get to learn music theory, and will cover such aspects as; reading music, learning different scales, and how to apply these different elements together as part of a full composition. Students will learn the theory and techniques that underlie a wide range of musical genres, and will have fun developing their guitar playing during their lessons. Eventually, students will get to enjoy learning and playing along to their favorite songs!
Adults wanting to learn how to play the guitar may find it beneficial to have a clear goal in mind when starting their lessons. Beginner students may wish to learn to play a few of their favorite songs, or an advanced player might like to develop a technical aspect of their guitar playing. Whatever the aim, our experienced teachers can help unlock the skills necessary to make those goals a reality. Learning and improving technique, co-ordination and theory can take time, but with regular lessons and practice, you will gradually start to see improvements in your guitar playing, and be well on your way to achieving your goals.
The earliest recommended age that students can start their guitar lessons is 6 years old. At this age, students will find it easiest to play a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings, and will learn how to play simple melodies on the top strings of the guitar. Students can begin to form chords, as well as play and sing along to songs by about ages 7 to 8. When students get to the ages 10-12, they should be able to comfortably handle a full-sized guitar. At this point, they may acquire a taste for rock music and want to progress to the electric guitar.
