Julie L

Instruments:

I'm an experienced and caring instructor who loves to see students empowered in their own creativity and excellence.  I received my Bachelor's in Music Education from Ithaca College in 1988.  I have recorded and released three projects so far that have received radio play internationally and been on the charts on college & public radio.  My travels performing music in the U.S. and beyond have enriched my life immeasurably and I love sharing the spark of imagination with my students.

Instruments:

I am a very motivated instructor who loves giving musical instruction to anyone that is excited about music.  I love teaching and talking about all different genres of music and learning about other people's influences and musical experiences.  I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2012 and have been teaching guitar lessons in the East Bay area since moving back.  I've been fortunate enough to study with some world class musicians and to perform with professional bands since I was 16 years old. Whether you want to dig into learning the history of the blues or you want to get starting on learning some jazz standards or even just picking up some Metallica riffs/solos, I can get you started from whichever starting point you choose.  From there I always make sure to assess a student's needs and tastes, then try to apply music theory along with nudging the student into new musical territory.  I believe that any student is capable of learning any type of music with the right attitude and carefully guided instruction.   Also if a student wants to develop his or her ear training on the guitar, I can help unlock the secrets to developing relative or even perfect pitch.  Since the ear is perhaps the most important factor to anyone's musicianship, this will be an immense help to any student. Most importantly, my goal is to have fun and to share my love for music with anyone who is willing to learn and listen!

Kristina S

Instruments:

I have been performing professionally in the Bay Area  for over 17 years. I have been teaching voice, guitar, piano and all music theory for 20 years. Some of my influences and inspirations are musicians like Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, John Lennon, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Edith Piaf, and Sarah Vaughn just to name a few. Having spent much of my time performing as a solo artist, I now love the company and sound of performing with my husband who is my bassist/guitarist, and with various other musicians and band mates. I have also started a company with my husband which promotes humanitarian causes through music, and am also a co-owner of a retail instrument store in Cupertino CA.

Ronald T

Instruments:

I'm a patient instructor that allows each person to grow at their own pace. We all have a goal of what we want to achieve and I guide you toward that goal. My primary goal is to create great musicians- people who are versed in many styles and have a handle on music as a language. I want to share my knowledge to help you find your musical voice and the creativity you seek through the guitar.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

Young students are advised to start off by learning to play on a half sized or three-quarter sized acoustic guitar. Older students may wish to start on an electric guitar, as long as they can hold the guitar comfortably and competently. There are many different student model guitars, which will set you back $150 - $200. This does not include the price for cables and an amplifier, which will be a necessary purchase for electric guitar players. Higher quality instruments are often easier to play, which provides the student a greater chance to enjoy their learning.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home guitar lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Young children will start out by learning how to fret notes with the left hand, and how to pluck or strum the strings with their right hand. This will allow them to play simple, familiar songs on one string. Students will start learning to read music, and eventually learn how to play the common open guitar chords. Once students are more familiar with the guitar fretboard, they can start learning barre chords, moveable scales, and be introduced to music theory. Advanced students might decide to study classical guitar repertoire, rock or blues solos, or even jazz improvization.
Whatever your current ability level, we recommend that students wanting to take guitar lessons have a clear aim in mind. Maybe there is a song you have always wanted to be able to play? Or maybe you want to develop your songwriting skills? Whatever your goals may be, our experienced teachers can help you achieve them with expert knowledge. Whether it be learning to play a sequence of chords, jamming a cool riff or mastering that guitar solo, developing the required skills and co-ordinations can take time. Taking regular lessons and practicing on a daily basis is the best way to achieving your goals.
Children need three main things in order to begin guitar lessons: physical dexterity in their hands, patience and commitment to practice between lessons, and the maturity to work well with the teacher. It takes a lot of hard work and daily practice for students to improve to a point where they can play their favorite songs - parents play a big role in determining a students success.
