I'm an experienced and caring instructor who loves to see students empowered in their own creativity and excellence.  I received my Bachelor's in Music Education from Ithaca College in 1988.  I have recorded and released three projects so far that have received radio play internationally and been on the charts on college & public radio.  My travels performing music in the U.S. and beyond have enriched my life immeasurably and I love sharing the spark of imagination with my students.

I'm a patient instructor that allows each person to grow at their own pace. We all have a goal of what we want to achieve and I guide you toward that goal. My primary goal is to create great musicians- people who are versed in many styles and have a handle on music as a language. I want to share my knowledge to help you find your musical voice and the creativity you seek through the guitar.

Michael L

More Information About Guitar Lessons

As a preference, younger students should start off by learning on a half size or three-quarter sized acoustic guitar. If they are able to hold it comfortably, older students could start off using an electric guitar. A brand new student model guitar can be purchased for about $150 to $200. An electric guitar will also need accompanying amplification as well as guitar cables, which will incur additional costs. It is important a student enjoys playing their instrument - so higher quality guitars are recommended as they are easier to play.
Save time by having a teacher come to your home! No need to pack up and transport your guitar between lessons, and no need to guzzle gas either. Our teachers provide a private, customized one-on-one lessons for each student, and your home will be both a comfortable and safe environment.
Musika plans its guitar lessons with the specific requirements of each individual student in mind. During the course of their guitar lessons, students can expect to learn; How to hold, tune and familiarize themselves with the components and notes of the guitar, basic playing techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, and learning the various chord-types that they will need in order to play their favorite songs, such as power chords, open chords and barre chords. Students will also get to learn music theory, and will cover such aspects as; reading music, learning different scales, and how to apply these different elements together as part of a full composition. Students will learn the theory and techniques that underlie a wide range of musical genres, and will have fun developing their guitar playing during their lessons. Eventually, students will get to enjoy learning and playing along to their favorite songs!
For students looking to start learning to play the guitar, we recommend that they do so with a particular goal in mind. You may wish to learn how to play your favorite songs, develop your compositional abilities or music theory. Maybe you are an advanced player wanting to take their playing to the next level? Whatever the goal, our experienced teachers can help bring these wishes to life. It takes time to learn and develop your guitar playing, and may take a couple of months before you start to achieve your aims. The best way to guarantee you meet your goals is through regular practice and lesson time.
Most children will start out by playing simple songs on one or two strings, before moving on to learning how to play open guitar chords. Teachers will show them how to read music, and also how to read chord charts to start learning their favorite songs. Students can also be taught classical guitar from a young age - beginner methods are very similar regardless of the style being taught.
