A half size (or three-quarter size) acoustic guitar is highly recommended for younger students. For older students, an electric guitar may be suitable, provided they can hold it correctly and with comfort. A good student model guitar can be obtained brand new for about $150 to $200. Electric guitar players will also need an amplifier as well as guitar cables, which will cost extra. Generally speaking, the higher the quality of the instrument, the easier it is to play. The ease of which an instrument plays is particularly important for young learners, as they will take to it quicker and enjoy their playing and practice more.
Taking in home guitar lessons saves you time, energy, and money. There is no need to pack up the guitar or amp to take them to the teachers studio, since a qualified, talented teacher can travel directly to your home. We make finding a teacher easy by matching you with a teacher who fits your needs and schedule.
At Musika, we appreciate that every student learns at their own pace. As such, our experienced teachers produce customized guitar lessons specifically for the requirements of each individual student. Our teachers can design lessons for any student, regardless of their age, experience or ability. Some of the things students can expect to learn during their lessons are; learning all the notes of the guitar, playing and rhythmic techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, how to read musical notation and tablature, learning how to play a variety of different chords, such as open and barre chords, and music theory. Over time, as each student progresses, they will learn how to piece everything they have learned together, in order to form complete compositions. Students can learn to play their favourite songs, or even to write their music!
For students looking to start learning to play the guitar, we recommend that they do so with a particular goal in mind. You may wish to learn how to play your favorite songs, develop your compositional abilities or music theory. Maybe you are an advanced player wanting to take their playing to the next level? Whatever the goal, our experienced teachers can help bring these wishes to life. It takes time to learn and develop your guitar playing, and may take a couple of months before you start to achieve your aims. The best way to guarantee you meet your goals is through regular practice and lesson time.
The earliest recommended age that students can start their guitar lessons is 6 years old. At this age, students will find it easiest to play a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings, and will learn how to play simple melodies on the top strings of the guitar. Students can begin to form chords, as well as play and sing along to songs by about ages 7 to 8. When students get to the ages 10-12, they should be able to comfortably handle a full-sized guitar. At this point, they may acquire a taste for rock music and want to progress to the electric guitar.
