Featured Foster city Guitar Teachers

Julie L

Instruments:

I'm an experienced and caring instructor who loves to see students empowered in their own creativity and excellence.  I received my Bachelor's in Music Education from Ithaca College in 1988.  I have recorded and released three projects so far that have received radio play internationally and been on the charts on college & public radio.  My travels performing music in the U.S. and beyond have enriched my life immeasurably and I love sharing the spark of imagination with my students.

Phillip D

Instruments:

I am a very motivated instructor who loves giving musical instruction to anyone that is excited about music.  I love teaching and talking about all different genres of music and learning about other people's influences and musical experiences.  I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2012 and have been teaching guitar lessons in the East Bay area since moving back.  I've been fortunate enough to study with some world class musicians and to perform with professional bands since I was 16 years old. Whether you want to dig into learning the history of the blues or you want to get starting on learning some jazz standards or even just picking up some Metallica riffs/solos, I can get you started from whichever starting point you choose.  From there I always make sure to assess a student's needs and tastes, then try to apply music theory along with nudging the student into new musical territory.  I believe that any student is capable of learning any type of music with the right attitude and carefully guided instruction.   Also if a student wants to develop his or her ear training on the guitar, I can help unlock the secrets to developing relative or even perfect pitch.  Since the ear is perhaps the most important factor to anyone's musicianship, this will be an immense help to any student. Most importantly, my goal is to have fun and to share my love for music with anyone who is willing to learn and listen!

Daniel E

Instruments:

I graduated from college in May of 2012 with a degree in zoology and music. I am currently pursuing a career in both fields, and teaching guitar on the side. I am a passionate and patient teacher, and I enjoy passing on my knowledge to others.

Ronald T

Instruments:

I'm a patient instructor that allows each person to grow at their own pace. We all have a goal of what we want to achieve and I guide you toward that goal. My primary goal is to create great musicians- people who are versed in many styles and have a handle on music as a language. I want to share my knowledge to help you find your musical voice and the creativity you seek through the guitar.

Scott C

Instruments:

I have worked as a professional musician for over 25 years. I have performed with members of the Doobie Brothers, Grateful Dead, David Grisman Quintet, Galactic and many others. I have performed on guitar, bass, drums, mandolin and keyboards. I have performed across the country at festivals, theaters and smaller venues like cafes and restaurants. I also have 20+ years experience in the music "business," as radio deejay, music journalist for the New York Times, manager of a guitar store, sales rep for a drum manufacturer, and guitar instructor UCSC.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

Younger students who are just starting their guitars lessons will find it much easier to play on a half size or three-quarter sized acoustic guitar. Playing on an electric guitar may be an alternative option for older students, so long as they find gripping the guitar to be comfortable. Brand new student model guitars can be purchased for around the $150 - $200 price range. Electric guitar players will need to invest in an amplifier and guitar cables, which will generate additional costs. Higher quality instruments are often easier to play than their cheaper counterparts, which will impact positively on the enjoyment and progression of playing the instrument for students.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's guitar lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes on guitar, proper fretting, fingering, and strumming technique, how to read music, learning all open chords, how to play barre chords, how to tune a guitar, music theory, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the guitar!
Whether your goal is to learn to play your favorite tunes, learn to compose your own music, develop a new technique or just to play for fun, our experienced teachers can help you make those goals a reality! Musika recommends that adult students begin lessons with a clear goal or two in mind, which can greatly help a teacher create a customized lesson plan just for your own lessons. By sticking to the teacher-™s lesson plan during your weekly practice sessions, you-™ll see faster results and have more fun while playing the guitar.
Students can start their guitar lessons as young as 6 years of age. We recommend that younger students begin by playing a half size classical guitar with nylon strings, as the smaller guitar and softer strings will be more comfortable to play. By the age of 7 or 8, most students are able to start forming chords, and can learn to play and sing along to their favorite songs. Around the ages of 10-12, most students are able to start playing a full sized guitar, and they generally become interested in learning to play rock music on an electric guitar.
