Instruments:

In 1975 I received a scholarship to study advanced studies on the musical field. I studied with the Teachers: L. Egúrbida, J.S. Fraticelli, E. Frasson, A. Romero, and A. Díaz. In 1980 I finished my musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of San Juan, Puerto Rico and graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE, with specialization in Musical Education and Performing Arts. I was the first native of Curacao Netherland Antilles to study classic Guitar and Musical Education in Puerto Rico. I have played as principal guitarist in renowned musical groups such as Los Ecos and The Polyglots, in several bands, and as a soloist I have given numerous recitals and concerts in the Antilles and abroad. I was selected to be part of the special group responsible for developing a plan for interviews and petitioner’s evaluation to study at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico for the academic year 1980-1981.I also received a scholarship to continue more advanced studies at Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colorado. In 1980 I obtained, recommended by the Administration of the Conservatory of Puerto Rico, very high acknowledgements including THE NATIONAL DEAN'S LIST OF AMERICA and the AMERICAN BIOGRAPHICAL INSTITUTE. I worked as a Music Educator at the Social and Pedagogic Academic Institute teaching Pedagogic and Didactic Principles to while simultaneously teaching classical and popular guitar at the Curacao Netherlands Antilles Cultural Center at all levels and ages. I was the co-founder of the Curacao Guitar-Society (GISO), at present “KITARA KORSOU, N.A.”. He also was the vice-president of the PRODIM (PRO Integral Musical Development) Foundation. In the past I have recorded several records with various well-known musicians. In June, 1984 I gave a series of guitar master-classes. My autodidactic guitar method “MELODIC GUITAR” for beginners from 7 years of age and older, is the first guitar method translated from the Papiamento language into the English and Spanish languages. During 2007 and through 2008 I had a position as a guitar, bass-guitar, piano, and Music Theory Instructor at “THE LATIN MUSICIANS INSTITUE” in Puerto Rico.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

Where possible, it is beneficial for younger students to begin their guitar lessons on a smaller sized guitar. Half or three-quarter sized acoustic guitars are the most suitable guitars for young beginners. Older students who can manage to hold their guitar comfortably may wish to start out by using an electric guitar. For $150 - $200, a brand new student model guitar can purchased. However, this price does not include the cost of buying an amplifier or guitar leads, which are essential for an electric guitar player, and will therefore incur additional costs. Students will typically have fun and enjoy playing an instrument dependent on how easy they find it to play. Consider that higher quality instruments are often nicer and easier to play when looking to buy a guitar.
Musika specializes in individually tailored, one-on-one guitar lessons in the comfort of your home. Whether your child learns in the studio or at home, the quality and content of each lesson will remain exactly the same. Home guitar lessons reduce the burden on parents to transport their children and equipment to their lesson, which saves time and money and helps to integrate lessons into busy work schedules. Musika prides itself on creating fun, engaging guitars lessons in an environment that students feel comfortable and familiar with - important conditions for their musical development.
Students typically start with the basics, such as how to hold the guitar, how fret notes with the left hand, and how to strum or pluck the strings with the right. Teachers will cover sight reading, guitar chords, and basic music theory, all of which are needed for students to perform and understands the inner-workings of their favorite songs. More advanced students can work on jazz improvization, classical technique, or rock or blues guitar solos.
For adults who are looking to learn to play the guitar, we recommend that they do so with some clear goals in mind. Maybe you want to learn to play some of your favorite songs, join a band or write your own music? Whatever the aim, our experienced teachers can help unlock the skills necessary to make those goals a reality. It can take time - often months - to develop the techniques and co-ordination required to play the guitar to a competent level. The most effective way to progress with your playing to is take regular lessons and practice often.
Students as young as 6 years old are welcome to start taking guitar lessons with our experienced guitar teachers at Musika. Students of such a young age will start learning simple melodies on the top strings of the guitar, as will play half-sized classical guitars with nylon strings. By age 7-8, students will start to learn more complex and challenging songs using chords. Around about the age of 10-12, many students express an interest in learning to play rock music using an electric guitar. By this stage, students are old enough to use a full sized guitar.
