Michael D

Instruments:

When I was six years old, my parents bought a piano and asked if I would like to play. I had no idea what it meant to play music but I answered, "yes!" Later on the electric guitar became interesting, so my Dad bought me a guitar for $75 dollars. Six years later I was offered a college scholarship to study music, and was offered the opportunity to improve my skills as a pianist/guitarist, educator, and composer. As a professional musician, teaching is one of my callings. Making an impact in other people's lives is extremely satisfying to me. My passion is performing my own music with my friends. However, without great teachers and mentors, I would have never made music my career. My commitment is to bring joy and love to each student's life as they study with me. Keeping music fun and playful is my vision. It is the highest honor to become a part of a student's life. Creating new partnerships with families in order to bring about the environment to make music a powerful part of a student's life forever is my primary goal as an educator. Music serves as a key to unlimited personal growth realized by a belief in oneself. I look forward to bringing music into your life.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

It is highly recommended that young students begin by learning on smaller, half or three-quarter sized acoustic guitars. For older students, an electric guitar may be suitable, on the basis that they can hold it correctly and with comfort. For between $150 - $200, many student model guitars can be bought from new. Electric guitar players will also need to purchase an amplifier and guitar cables, at additional costs. Remember, higher quality instruments are often easier to play, which will likely enhance the students enjoyment and development the instrument.
Musika specializes in individually tailored, one-on-one guitar lessons in the comfort of your home. Whether your child learns in the studio or at home, the quality and content of each lesson will remain exactly the same. Home guitar lessons reduce the burden on parents to transport their children and equipment to their lesson, which saves time and money and helps to integrate lessons into busy work schedules. Musika prides itself on creating fun, engaging guitars lessons in an environment that students feel comfortable and familiar with - important conditions for their musical development.
At Musika, our teachers create lessons plans that are specifically customized to meet the needs of each individual student. Our experienced teachers can develop the skills of a complete beginner, or help to take an advanced players skills to the next level. Students can expect to learn such things as; how to correctly hold the guitar, learning the notes on the fret board and how to tune their instrument. Students will also learn techniques such as fretting, fingering and strumming, and will learn to play various scales and chords, such as open chords, power chords and barre chords. They will learn how to combine these elements of guitar playing to create or cover complete compositions, as well as learning music theory and how to read music. Last but not least, our teachers will help students to realize the joys and fun that learning to play the guitar can bring!
Many adults take guitar lessons! Your teacher will develop an individualized lesson plan relevant to your musical needs and goals. Adults taking guitar lessons for the first time can expect to learn a lot of new things, and have fun in the process!
The earliest suggested age that students can start their guitar lessons is 6 years old. Students of this age will find it much easier to learn on a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings. They will start off by learning to play simple melodies on the top strings. Students can begin to form chords, as well as play and sing along to songs by about age 7 or 8. When students get to age 10-12, they should be able to comfortably handle a full-sized guitar. Students often like to play rock music by this age, and will therefore want to play the electric guitar.
