Featured Alpharetta Guitar Teachers

Norman T

Instruments:

I have enjoyed teaching and helping students of all ages for 22 years in achieving their goals in learning to play their instruments.  Educated at Columbus State University with a Music Education degree, I teach many instruments including piano, guitar, including Classical style, banjo, saxophone, clarinet and flute.  If you would like to start on the trumpet or trombone, I can help you as well.  I specialize in working with the novice musician, giving them a solid foundation in instrumental technique and musical knowledge.  I can also help the more accomplished player advance to the level he or she desires.

Marcus P

Instruments:

Marcus grew up in various cities along the Eastern Coast of the United States. Throughout his school career, he sang in choirs and ensembles, which helped to shape his love of music. At the age of 15, Marcus received his first guitar, and has never looked back. Marcus moved to Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C., where he sought to study under Jay Brighton. Jay had a profound influence on Marcus in the areas of music theory, ear training, and, most importantly, the discipline of practice.  After studying with Jay for a few years, Marcus moved to Virginia Beach, VA where he learned from players such as Scott Mishoe and Jay Rakes. In the mean time, Marcus began playing in various bands and recorded his first album Martian Landscape. At times, you would even be able to catch Marcus on stage with Paul Gilbert.  Upon graduating from high school, Marcus wanted to further his knowledge of the music industry, so he moved to Nashville, TN and attended Middle Tennessee State University to study Recording Engineering. During his college years, Marcus continued to play in several bands; he played on numerous recording projects; he taught private lessons; he played in musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors and Grease; and in his spare time, he studied under professional session guitarist, Gwain Reifsnider. Marcus is now working on new material, doing various studio dates, working with different bands and teaching private lessons in the Atlanta area.

Robert C

Instruments:

I have been in music all my life, I always try to take some kind lessons constantly because there is always room to improve my skill. I have played in many bands that have performed live. In my current bands I play as lead guitar and lead vocals. I play many types of music in my bands from Rock, Blues, R&B, Country, Reggae, Classical, and Jazz. I have played for churches, bars, and community neighborhoods in the Atlanta area.

Vinny I

Instruments:

I was born in the former Soviet Union in 1982. My family and I moved to the states in 1991 and have lived in the Atlanta area ever since. I have been classically trained in violin since the age of 3, and I also picked up the piano and guitar as I got older. I have been teaching music for 12+ years, and my instruments include: violin, viola, piano, and guitar. I also tutor in Music Theory and Music History.

Joseph J

Instruments:

I love to teach. I studied in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and Mathematics, but music and teaching have always been in my life, teaching students throughout high school and college at UGA as a second job.  I took trips to Mexico over the summers from 2002-2005 playing music for children and students in between manual labor mission work.  My music performance experience ranges from large outdoor venues in front of a large crowd to sitting and recording acoustic and electric lead tracks in a studio.

More Information About Guitar Lessons

Young students are encouraged to start their guitar lessons by playing half size or three-quarter size acoustic guitars. Using an electric guitar is a viable alternative for older students who are able to hold the instrument with comfort. A student model guitar bought from new will cost in the vicinity of $150 - $200. For electric guitar players, amplification and guitar cables are required, which will need to be purchased at an additional cost. As a general rule, the higher the quality of the instrument, the easier it is to play. This is important as it affords the student the best possible chance of enjoying playing and learning the guitar.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in the studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from the studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure and familiar environment.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's guitar lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes on guitar, proper fretting, fingering, and strumming technique, how to read music, learning all open chords, how to play barre chords, how to tune a guitar, music theory, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the guitar!
We recommend that older students looking to take up guitar lessons have a clear goal in mind, such as learning some of their favorite songs or learning to write their own compositions. Our experienced teachers can help you to develop the necessary skills to attain your musical goals. Learning any instrument can take time, as you will need to develop your co-ordination and muscle memory in order to start playing chords, riffs and solos. The best and quickest way to learn these fundamental skills is to take regular lessons and practice your guitar playing as often as possible.
Students can start their guitar lessons as young as 6 years of age. A half sized classical guitar will be easier to hold for young students, and nylon strings are softer on the fingers than steel strings. By the age of 7 or 8, most students are able to start forming chords, and can learn to play and sing along to their favorite songs. Often students will progress onto using a full size guitar by the ages of 10-12. During these years, students usually develop a taste for rock music and will want to learn the electric guitar.
