Younger students who are just starting their guitars lessons will find it much easier to play on a half size or three-quarter sized acoustic guitar. Playing on an electric guitar may be an alternative option for older students, so long as they find gripping the guitar to be comfortable. Brand new student model guitars can be purchased for around the $150 - $200 price range. Electric guitar players will need to invest in an amplifier and guitar cables, which will generate additional costs. Higher quality instruments are often easier to play than their cheaper counterparts, which will impact positively on the enjoyment and progression of playing the instrument for students.
Musika specializes in individually tailored, one-on-one guitar lessons in the comfort of your home. Whether your child learns in the studio or at home, the quality and content of each lesson will remain exactly the same. Home guitar lessons reduce the burden on parents to transport their children and equipment to their lesson, which saves time and money and helps to integrate lessons into busy work schedules. Musika prides itself on creating fun, engaging guitars lessons in an environment that students feel comfortable and familiar with - important conditions for their musical development.
Students typically start with the basics, such as how to hold the guitar, how fret notes with the left hand, and how to strum or pluck the strings with the right. Teachers will cover sight reading, guitar chords, and basic music theory, all of which are needed for students to perform and understands the inner-workings of their favorite songs. More advanced students can work on jazz improvization, classical technique, or rock or blues guitar solos.
At Musika, we suggest that adult learners begin their guitar lessons with a clear and achievable goal to work towards. For beginners, this might be to learn to play a few of their favorite songs, or maybe to develop their own compositional skills! Advanced players may have a specific technique they wish to improve or to take their general playing to the next level. Learning to play the guitar can take time, and it may take months before you start to realize your goals. With regular lessons and practice, our teachers can ensure you achieve those goals.
Students are able to start taking guitar lessons with Musika by the age 6. Students of this age are advised to learn on a half-sized classical guitar with nylon strings, as it will be much easier to play. They will start by learning simple tunes on the top strings of the guitar. By ages 7-8, students will have progressed onto learning to play chords and how to play and sing along to some of their favorite songs. At ages 10-12, students are often able to hold a full size guitar quite comfortably, and can want to learn rock music on an electric guitar.
