More Information About Flute Lessons

For a beginning flutist, Musika suggests renting an instrument at first, and purchasing later on if the student enjoys and wants to continue playing long-term. Yamaha is a really reliable brand, and Armstrong or Gemeinhardt are also solid choices. Once the student progresses, he or she could look into purchasing a more advanced model with open hole keys and a B foot joint.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home Flute lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's flute lessons may include, but are not limited to: correct embouchure formation; how to appropriately shape your lips to blow into the instrument, how to develop a solid tone in low and high registers, how to hold, assemble, and clean the instrument properly, fingerings for notes, and techniques for developing quick finger action for passages, different articulation: how to slur or tongue cleanly, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the flute!
Flute can be a wonderful instrument for older students, especially those who have escaped, or already dealt with, the plight of braces! Of the woodwinds, the flute can be a relatively easy instrument for beginners, and an extremely satisfying instrument to study at any age.
We recommend beginning flute lessons around age 7 or 8 - most school music programs usually begin flute students in the 3rd grade. The student needs to be big enough to be able to appropriately hold the instrument, including having the minimum hand/finger length to reach the flute keys/holes comfortably, and have the lung capacity to play properly without running out of breath.
