More Information About Flute Lessons

For a new flutist, Musika recommends renting initially and buying an instrument later on if the student has demonstrated some commitment. Reliable brands include Yamaha, Armstrong, and Gemeinhardt. More advanced players should consider a flute with open hole keys and a B foot joint. Very young players can use a curved headjoint to assist playing.
What is unique about a program like Musika, is that we offer in-home lessons for no additional cost. This allows the student to save the time and money that would normally be spent traveling to a studio.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's flute lessons may include, but are not limited to: correct embouchure formation; how to appropriately shape your lips to blow into the instrument, how to develop a solid tone in low and high registers, how to hold, assemble, and clean the instrument properly, fingerings for notes, and techniques for developing quick finger action for passages, different articulation: how to slur or tongue cleanly, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the flute!
Many of our adult flute students are complete beginners, while others are former flutists now returning to an old hobby. We also have students who are more advanced and are looking to take their skills in both advanced classical repertoire and/or jazz improvization to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
Our recommended age for beginning flute lessons is age 8. Most school music programs begin introducing the woodwind instruments in 4th grade. If a young student is eager to begin flute lessons early, consider recorder lessons. The fingering on the recorder is the same as the flute, but the instrument is much easier to hold and produce a sound.
