More Information About Flute Lessons

"To start, Musika suggests renting a flute. Acceptable brands include Gemeinhardt, Yamaha, and Armstrong. For smaller players, a ""candy cane"" headjoint can balance the weight and make playing easier. As the flutist advances purchasing an open hole model with a B foot joint will produce a more mature sound."
Taking flute lessons in your home offers a great way to master your skills on the instrument without ever leaving your home! Many students and parents find this very convenient as there is no additional time for travel.
Each lesson is personalized to the student. The teacher will concentrate on the needs and goals of the individual. However, general topics will be covered, such as: how to clean, put together, and hold the flute, how to blow correctly into the instrument to develop a nice tone in all registers, how to finger the notes, slurring and tongueing, and how to read music!
Flute can be a wonderful instrument for older students, especially those who have escaped, or already dealt with, the plight of braces! Of the woodwinds, the flute can be a relatively easy instrument for beginners, and an extremely satisfying instrument to study at any age.
The minimum age for beginning flute lessons would be around age 7. Any earlier will be too frustrating for the player. The flute does require a lot of air and the student needs to be big enough to blow properly and hold the flute up without letting the head tilt. If a young student is very eager to begin early, consider recorder lessons.
