I am a dedicated and motivated instructor with over 10 years of public school and private experience in Texas, Massachusetts, and Florida.  I graduated from SMU's Meadows School of the Arts (Dallas, TX) with degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance.  As a performer, I have substituted with the Dallas Wind Symphony, performed with MIT's Balinese Gamelan, Gamelan Galak-Tika, and played bansuri (Indian flute) with my husband on tabla at various Indian weddings and venues.

More Information About Flute Lessons

"Young players should begin by renting. Consider renting well-known brands like Yamaha, Gemeinhardt, and Armstrong. To help smaller players hold the instrument, a curved headjoint called a ""candy cane"" headjoint is available. More advanced players might want to condsider purchasing a flute with an extended B foot joint and open-hole keys."
Flute lessons can occur in your home for the same price as in-studio lessons. The student lets Musika know what days and times work best, and we arrange for an instructor to come to your home, at no extra cost to you!
New flutists will learn the basics of caring for the instrument, as well as how to hold and properly assemble the flute. Students will learn correct breathing, how to develop a beautiful tone, the ins and outs of articulation, and how to form the proper embouchure. All Musika students will be exposed to music theory and the process of reading music.
It is never too late to begin flute! We have many students who begin as adults. Our teachers have experience working with all ages and can work with you whether you are a beginner or advanced player.
The flute is the smallest instrument in the band and is therefore easy for young players to transport and hold. Musika recommends beginning the flute around 7 or 8 when the student is old enough to proper hold the instrument and press the keys. The flute does take significant amount of air so the player does need to have the lung capacity to produce a supported sound.
