About Musika
-
What services does Musika provide?
Musika offers customized one-on-one lessons in your home or in our studios to students of all ages and abilities. We will attempt to match you with one of our select instructors, who will create a unique lesson plan based on your needs and desires.
-
How long has Musika been in business?
Musika has been in business since April of 2001. We now have over 1000 teachers across the country who have been selected from over 20,000 applications received to date.
-
Who is the founder and CEO of Musika?
Musika was founded by E. Scott Brady, who also currently serves as CEO. Mr. Brady, along with other Musika staff, works to place students with our best matching faculty members and to answer any questions you may have about music lessons.
How to Get Started
-
What is the process to enroll?
The first step in the process is to complete what we call a 'Teacher Request.' We will attempt to match your specific requests with a select member of our faculty and have him or her call you to arrange a 30 minute introductory lesson. Please contact us in order to discuss the details of our program and fill out your teacher request.
-
How much do lessons cost?
For rates in your specific area, simply contact Musika. Musika's rates are very reasonable and competitive for the services we offer.
-
Is there a registration fee?
There is no fee charged at any time to register with Musika.
-
What is the duration of a lesson?
All students can take either 45 or 60 minute lessons. Children under the age of 18 also have the option of taking a shorter 30 minute lesson. If you decide after beginning lessons with one of our instructors that you would like to take a longer lesson length, please contact the Musika office to make arrangements.
-
My child is very young. Can he or she have a shorter lesson than 30 minutes?
As long as your child is approximately the minimum required age for their particular instrument, we feel confident that our teachers can provide an engaging lessons program to fill a 30 minute time slot. To determine if your child is old enough to start lessons feel free to contact the Musika office to discuss specifics. Also, due to teachers' scheduling commitments the minimum lesson time we can offer is 30 minutes.
-
How many times a week are the lessons?
Lessons are normally once a week. We feel this leaves enough time between lessons to practice while also providing a consistent schedule. These two factors are keys to making successful progress on your instrument.
-
Can I have more than one lesson per week?
Yes, Musika is able to arrange more than one lesson per week. If you'd like to have more than one lesson per week we advise you space out which days you have lessons (eg. Monday & Thursday), which allows ample time to practice between lessons.
-
What are your teachers' schedules?
Musika works around your schedule. You give us the days and times that are best for you, and Musika will find a teacher who can accommodate those dates and times. Lessons can be conducted on any day of the week, Sunday through Saturday, whenever is convenient for you.
-
Are there lessons on weekends?
Yes! If you desire a weekend time, this can easily be included in your request in addition to any weekday times you may have available.
-
Where are your studios located?
Musika does not have a central studio location, but many of our instructors teach out of their own home studio. This means we effectively have many different studio locations across the country! If having the lessons in your home is not the best option, you can also request lessons in a teacher's studio.
-
When can I start lessons?
You can get started at any time of the year.
Privacy Protection
-
Do you ever release my personal information to a third party?
Musika has a strict privacy policy and respects the confidentiality of all of its clients. Musika does not release to anyone the private information provided to us at any time about any student through any means, including but not limited to through the internet, over phone, or in person.
-
Is your website secure?
We work to protect the security of any information you provide to use by using 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input so you can be sure that your sensitive information is secure.
Introductory Lessons, Recital Opportunities, and Other Questions
-
Do you offer an opportunity to meet a teacher or teachers to make sure I like them?
Musika wants to make sure that you feel good about the teacher we match you with. We always offer an introductory lesson to potential students regardless of age or previous ability. An introductory lesson is a half hour in duration and provides the opportunity to meet a teacher and learn more about their strengths and teaching styles.
-
What if the first teacher isn't a good match? Can I have another introductory lesson with a different teacher?
We have a very high success rate of matching students with teachers. However, should you not be satisfied with your introductory lesson you may try a different teacher in order to find a good match.
-
Do you hold recitals for children? Where are they held? Do recitals cost extra?
Musika holds recitals at various destinations. Students have the chance to share their new found skills and material with family and friends. Performing for a live audience enhances the student's excitement and joy of playing. Performers include a wide range of Musika's students from beginner to advanced. Musika is also proud to offer recitals free of charge to all Musika students and their relatives/family members.
-
Do you offer gift certificates?
Gift Certificates are a great way to show a friend or family member that you believe in their dream of playing music. Musika offers gift certificates for packages of four or eight lessons. A gift certificate can be sent to you through the mail, or a .pdf can be emailed to you the same day you contact a Musika representative to learn more about purchasing the gift certificate.
-
I'm a beginner. How well will I be able to play after a few months of lessons?
In a few months time you will make noticeable progress on your instrument. However, it is completely up to the student's ability, how much time he/she can devote to practicing, and what his/her specific goals are. Generally speaking, a couple of months of lessons will only scratch the surface of an individual's goal to learn a musical instrument. Music is the pursuit of a lifetime.
About our Teachers
-
What are the teachers' backgrounds?
The vast majority of our teachers have bachelor's degrees in Music, as well as at least 5 to 10 years teaching experience at a minimum. Many of our teachers are graduates of top conservatories and music programs and devote themselves to teaching for a living.
-
Do you conduct background checks on your teachers?
Musika conducts thorough background checks on all of its teachers so you can feel safe and secure with the teacher that Musika sends to you. All background checks are conducted by the Intelius Corporation. The Intelius Corporation, the leader of its field, is FRCA compliant and a member of the NAPBS (National Association of Professional Background Screeners).
-
Do you provide teachers' references and bios?
Musika will be happy to provide teacher references and bios once we determine from your request which teachers can fit your schedule, location, instrument, and any other specific request that you might have. Any potential teacher you are matched with will also be able to provide you with this information before or during your introductory lesson.
-
Do the teachers provide instruments?
Unfortunately at the moment, Musika does not rent or sell musical instruments. However we do have relationships with many music stores and would be happy to recommend a store where you can rent or purchase a musical instrument.
-
Are there teachers who teach more than one instrument?
Although most of Musika's faculty members are specialists in one instrument, there are some cases where a teacher has teaching experience with additional instruments. If you are looking for one teacher to teach you or your child on a variety of instruments, please contact the Musika office and we will discuss with you further the possibility of your request.
-
What styles of music do your teachers teach?
Musika's faculty members specialize in a variety of different styles, such as classical, jazz, pop, country, R & B, blues, and more. If you are interested in one specific style or genre of music you can incorporate that into your teacher request.
