Nothing gives me more joy as a teacher than to have one of my students ask me a question. It sounds simple, but a student with questions is a student who wants to learn. I take this creativity and try to sculpt it into passion. I feel that a teachers job is to inspire, and point the student in the right direction of their goals, rather to be overbearing with a book and pencil. Read More

As students progress, they can move on to drumset studies. I can focus on whichever style of music interests the student, or I can present various styles (Rock, Latin, Funk, Jazz, etc.) All of the ideas learned in the previous lessons will be applied to the drumset. Areas covered will include: -Beats (Rock, Swing, Bossa Nova, Samba, 12/8, etc.) -Fills -Soloing -Reading Charts -Time/ Feel -Dynamics I am very patient and flexible. If there is anything that the student specifically wants to learn or doesn’t want to learn, I’m all ears! I’m here to teach them whatever they are interested in as well as to introduce them to something they may not have experienced before. Read More

My teaching career began nearly 20 years ago as the assistant director of a concert band for senior citizens! I was about halfway through college when a music education professor asked me if I'd like the opportunity. From there I went on to teach full time or as a clinician and many middle and high schools in the DFW area, as well as Baylor University. My time living abroad in Brazil and Korea gave me the opportunity to work with both younger (elementary) and older (adult) students in very diverse environments. Read More

First and foremost, Will believes that each student is different. Each student has different priorities and learns differently. Regardless of just starting on the drums as a kid or seeking some fine-tuning as a more seasoned player, Will allows the student to discover and foster their own strengths- it's this confidence that allows the student to dig into their weaknesses in a practical manor without feeling discouraged. Additionally, this allows the student to have specific focus on a topic when practicing on their own time and sets realistic expectations. Read More

I continued to teach music at that same sleep away camp for years -- eventually becoming the Head of the Music Department ( Rock Shop) there - coaching bands, leading improv classes, and developing the program. I later enjoyed several years teaching as an adjunct professor in the music department at my alma mater. I have always had a steady practice of private students ranging in ages and experience. Whatever the material be, I focus on finding the student's true musical voice, allowing them to take ownership over their instrument, allowing any intimidation to fade, and therefore, finding the natural joy in playing music. I have been teaching private lessons since 2006, and have been fortunate to gain experience with all age groups and skill levels. Coming from a unique combination of genres, I am able to bring the complete spectrum of music into my playing and teaching. My experience with improvisation and learning by ear enables me to take a more intuitive and sensitive approach to classical notated music, and my experience with classical music gives me a complete understanding of the theory and harmony that crosses over into non-classical genres.
