My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. If I was to emphasize anything about learning the art, it would be the understanding of interpretation and how to make any music into something that is uniquely yours. Read More

For beginner students, my primary goal is to teach fundamental musical concepts and basic technique so that they have a solid foundation on which to expand. This means a focus on rhythm and meter, stick control, and some basic coordination. For intermediate students, I tend to tailor lessons based on their own musical interests, helping them expand their knowledge of the drumset by delving into genres of music that speak to them. My teaching experience began early; before I left my parent's home. I was teaching friends basic beats and drum fills as quickly as I could learn them! I've continued to teach regularly since then, but I opened my official private studio in Colorado in 2016. Since then, I've been primarily focused on teaching music while continuing to play drums professionally in recording studios and at live venues. In a nutshell: I'm a university-trained music educator and accomplished professional drummer with a wide variety of international and studio recording experience in many drumming styles including Jazz, Ska, Hip Hop, Acid Jazz, Punk, Reggae, Rock, Blast Beats, Country, Swing, Blues, Afro-Cuban, Salsa, Samba, Americana, Latin, Funk, and Afro Beat. My teaching methods are completely based on the playing level of the student. Beginner trumpet students will start in any generic beginner trumpet book. Students who have a grasp of the basics will jump right into Arban or Clark studies. I focus on tone improvement, range extension, air control, accuracy, and articulation. Sometimes that just means playing whole notes for 15 minutes at a time! Every embouchure is different so every student needs a different set of studies. Read More

My methods vary on a case to case basis.Beginer to advanced level grade placement consideration. First lessons are typically to evelauate students strengths and weakness and pivotal areas of focus. I then prepare a custom curriculum and that best fit them fits student. My Main goal is to assist my students in attaining their music and performance goals. Read More

Really, it just depends on what works. I will model each teaching style around each student. I am not a fascist when it comes to learning every single note of a drum fill or playing something exactly the same as someone else. Every professional drummer I have ever seen has learned to internalize and approximate the feeling of a decade of drumming, a style of drumming, or the attitude of a style of music. Read More

I encompass his lesson plan into my own as much as possible because it was his teachings that got me to where I am today. I find with my students that a healthy balance of practicing fundamentals and practicing pieces of music that they are very passionate about produces a great deal of inspiration and fuels their creative process. I encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals, as well as compose their own material. Read More
