Instruments: Clarinet
My teaching experience goes back to my undergraduate days, I began teaching private lessons 7 years ago. I have a great experience for online teaching as well, as I recently had a variety of students to teach on Zoom. Currently I am a teacher at the Long Island Conservatory and I also teach privately. In my career I was also teaching music theory and piano and I did many workshops in primary schools where I gained a lot of experience to introduce kids and inspire them to start learning an instrument. I strive to maintain a fun stress free environment in my lessons. I want my students to feel comfortable making mistakes because with each mistake is an opportunity to learn a new concept or fix an underlying problem. I also encourage students to suggest material to be played or worked on during lessons. I've found that if my students are working on music that they choose to play, they have more motivation and it's more fun. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument, focussing on right posture, grip and sound. For intermediate students there is more freedom. If there is a good understanding of how the fundamentals work, the student can share her / his preference with me. Since I teach all genres, there is a very broad palette to discuss. Whenever I have a good feeling with the student's preference, I'll come up with a system so we can start working on new material. Read More

In other words, I cater to each individual student, especially since no two musicians are the same. If a more advanced student is striving for something like NYSSMA or All-State, I would pace them and their lessons accordingly so that they will be ready in time for whatever they might be preparing for. However, despite this different approach, I would still work with them to understand their strengths and weaknesses with playing so that I can help them improve accordingly. Read More

My teaching experience has been quite rewarding and varied over the years. Every student has a unique and special passion that has drawn them into music and I make sure to acknowledge that in order to maintain that spirit even when a task is in front of them. My main focus is the technical aspect of the instrument, helping the student discover how it works for them, so they can shape the music the best way possible. Read More

From the second I was handed a clarinet on my 10th birthday, I knew that I wanted to spend my life playing music. I loved it so much that I even chose to go to music school on Saturdays (!!!) every week from 7th to 12th grade. I studied at the Eastman School of Music where I earned my Bachelor degree, and at Lynn Conservatory for my Masters. Music has taken me all over the world to perform and teach- from castles in Italy to orphanages in Zimbabwe, it has lead me to places some people only dream of. Read More

I started teaching in college when I was a tutor in the mathematics and music departments as well as at an after school program in the neighboring town. After graduating I started teaching private music lessons in a variety of settings. I try to keep my lessons interesting and informative so that the student learns without getting bored. I am a patient, kind, and understanding teacher to students of all ages. Read More
