More Information About Clarinet Lessons

There are usually two types of clarinets available, wood and plastic. Plastic clarinets are less expensive, but a wood clarinet is certain to be more durable and last longer. A wood clarinet will also produce a warmer and more professional sound. We suggest visiting your local music store and speaking to the professionals there to find out which instrument would best suit the needs of your student, and your current budget. Once you are working with a Musika Clarinet teacher, the teacher can also provide you suggestions with the best clarinet models or the best stores to get your instrument locally. Every clarinet should come with 5 basic parts: the bell, the lower joint, the upper joint, the barrel, and the mouthpiece. Make sure to inspect the instrument and be sure it includes these things.
In home clarinet lessons offer a convenient option for learning to play the instrument for most students. The lessons will be structured the same way as in-studio lessons and will generally be once a week.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's clarinet lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes using a clarinet fingering chart, proper embouchure and tonguing technique, how to read music, how to care for your clarinet; which reed strength and mouthpiece to use, music theory, basic form and analysis, musicianship skills, or how to become a better musician, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the clarinet!
Many of our adult clarinet students are complete beginners, while others haven't played their instrument in over 10 years. We also have teachers who can work with more advanced students looking to take their skills in both advanced classical repertoire and/or jazz improvization to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
We suggest starting clarinet lessons at age 7 or 8. A student should be able to hold the instrument correctly, so their fingers must be large enough to do this. Playing clarinet also requires significant lung capacity, which can be difficult for a younger child.
