More Information About Clarinet Lessons

Young students are best-suited for a plastic student model clarinet. Plastic is durable, easy to care for, and can be taken outside for marching band. Models made from wood, offered by companies like Yamaha and Buffett, are typically recommended by conductors of school wind ensembles and orchestras for indoor concert use.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Our teachers create a custom lesson and technique plan for each student. For the most part, lessons will focus around learning how to hold and care for the instrument, how to prepare it for playing, how to read music, sight read, and basic musicianship skills. Students will also focus on mouth position and breath support to play the instrument.
Many of our adult clarinet students are complete beginners, while others haven't played their instrument in over 10 years. We also have teachers who can work with more advanced students looking to take their skills in both advanced classical repertoire and/or jazz improvization to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
We suggest starting clarinet lessons at age 7 or 8. A student should be able to hold the instrument correctly, so their fingers must be large enough to do this. Playing clarinet also requires significant lung capacity, which can be difficult for a younger child.
