Samuel K

Instruments:

I am a current student at Ball State University studying to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Instrumental/General Music Education with an add-on in Vocal Education. I am passionate about teaching music and helping others reach their full potential on whatever instruments they want to play. I am versatile and can play on almost every instrument with piano as my primary focus. When I am not teaching, I spend my time practicing, performing, and always striving to improve on any and every instrument I have available. And when I can no longer practice, I normally find myself composing/arranging pieces and training my ears to hear music better.

More Information About Clarinet Lessons

Young students are best-suited for a plastic student model clarinet. Plastic is durable, easy to care for, and can be taken outside for marching band. Models made from wood, offered by companies like Yamaha and Buffett, are typically recommended by conductors of school wind ensembles and orchestras for indoor concert use.
In home clarinet lessons offer a convenient option for learning to play the instrument for most students. The lessons will be structured the same way as in-studio lessons and will generally be once a week.
Each student will have a custom lesson plan created for them by their instructor. Our teachers will generally recommend specific method books that students can purchase for use in their lessons. Students will learn how to read music, how to sight read, musicianship skills, and the specific skills needed to play the clarinet and support the sound.
Many adult students choose to take the clarinet, even with no previous experience. Clarinet can be a wonderful instrument to learn for the first time and a lot of progress can be made as long as the student is practicing! Clarinet can be a very satisfying instrument to learn as an adult because it takes a lot of lung capacity and skill to play clarinet.
Children generally begin to learn the clarinet at age 7 or 8. We suggest this age, because the student needs to be able to hold the instrument correctly and support its weight. The students fingers need to be the right size to play instrument, and the child needs to have enough lung capacity to support the sound of this instrument.
