More Information About Cello Lessons

All students will need their own cello for lessons, and practicing. Whether a student chooses to buy, or to rent is a personal choice of the student. Advanced players usually choose to own their instruments, but for beginners, renting is most likely a more convenient choice. When you rent, you are equipped with all of the accessories you will need, such as a bow and a case. It is also a smaller financial commitment than purchasing a cello that may, or may not get enough use to make it worth it. Renting is by far the best idea for children, as cellos come in different sizes, and it is most likely that the youngest students will start with the smallest size, and need to move up, which is very easy when renting. Your private Musika instructor will be able to let you know what size cello works best for you.
When you choose in home lessons, you choose convenience. You are able to save time in your day, and save you money by not having any travel expenses. For younger students, learning in the atmosphere of their own home can make for a better experience. It may be easier for children to learn when they are in a familiar environment and feel more at ease. For adults, it is the benefit of not having to travel to yet another place during your busy day/
No particular style of teaching is taught by each teacher. Students and teachers are all very different and will make more progress when the lesson style is fit to their particular needs. Many teachers will work with the student on their own particular goals while teaching them how to technically play the instrument, and read music. If there is a particular method of teaching a student is interested in studying, Musika is more than happy to find a teacher that specializes in their desired style.
All skill levels and ages are welcomed by Musika. It is never to late to start learning, and our teachers work with adult students of all ages and abilities. Whether you are an advanced student who wants to further their studies, or a complete beginner who is ready to dive into an instrument, adult lessons can be an extremely fun and fulfilling experience.
We recommend children begin cello around age 7 or 8. With the cello being a larger member of the string family, it is important that the child is comfortable with the size of the instrument. Our knowledgeable teachers can help you choose the correct size. As beginning students, children are introduced to the technical aspects of playing, musicianship, and how to read and understand music.
