All students will need their own cello for lessons, and practicing. Whether a student chooses to buy, or to rent is a personal choice of the student. Advanced players usually choose to own their instruments, but for beginners, renting is most likely a more convenient choice. When you rent, you are equipped with all of the accessories you will need, such as a bow and a case. It is also a smaller financial commitment than purchasing a cello that may, or may not get enough use to make it worth it. Renting is by far the best idea for children, as cellos come in different sizes, and it is most likely that the youngest students will start with the smallest size, and need to move up, which is very easy when renting. Your private Musika instructor will be able to let you know what size cello works best for you.
In home lessons is the most popular choice with Musika students. It allows both beginning and advance students to study their instrument even with very busy schedules. You will not spend time or money on traveling, and will have the same quality of lessons with our qualified instructors. Children and adults both love the idea of in home lessons as it allows learning to occur in the comfort and securtiy of their own home
Music lessons are tailored to each students specific needs. All students are different, and will progress using different methods. Our teachers will work with the students on a case by base basis, ensuring that each student works to their highest ability. All lessons will be comprised of some variation of learning to read music, learning how to technically play the instrument, and learning to progress in their musicianship. While Musika does not mandate a particular style of teaching, if there is a method you are interested in we will do our best to match you with a teacher that specializes in that area.
Musika has adult students that begin working with us every day. Our teachers work with the student to achieve their own personal goals and further their music education. Whether a student is going to start from the very beginning, or continue years of previous study, adult lessons can cater to any skill level and age. Our in home lessons also offer a very convenient option for adults with busy schedules who are looking to start a new adventure!
Because of the cello's large size, our recommended starting age is seven or eight, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the instrument properly and with sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. The cello is also an excellent instrument for students of all ages who have some experience with other members of the violin family, or even as a beginning instrument.
