More Information About Cello Lessons

There are a couple different options to consider when looking to start cello lessons. Students can either purchase a cello, or they can rent through an instrumental music store. Renting is usually done on a monthly basis, and the instrument will come with all the accessories you need. Renting is, more than often, the best option for beginners, as it is less of a financial commitment. It also comes in handy when the student is a child, and they are starting with a smaller sized instrument. By renting, you make it easier to change instruments when the student grows into a larger cello.
When you choose in home lessons, you choose convenience. You are able to save time in your day, and save you money by not having any travel expenses. For younger students, learning in the atmosphere of their own home can make for a better experience. It may be easier for children to learn when they are in a familiar environment and feel more at ease. For adults, it is the benefit of not having to travel to yet another place during your busy day/
Each lesson will be different, just like each student is different. If you have a specific teaching style in mind, we will always do our best to match you with a teacher who is comfortable with that method. All lessons will have a combination of learning how to play with correct technique, how to read music, and how to advance musicianship. Most teachers will ask you to purchase a few method or exercise books. These are inexpensive and will aid the student in their learning and practicing.
Musika works with students of all ages. Adults can take lessons at any skill level, whether it be beginner or advanced. Our teachers will make a specific lesson plan to help adult students progess in their studies, and aid them in any specific goals they have. While many people think only children begin music lessons, our adult students have had great success in increasing their musical abilities!
Because of the cello's large size, our recommended starting age is seven or eight, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the instrument properly and with sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. The cello is also an excellent instrument for students of all ages who have some experience with other members of the violin family, or even as a beginning instrument.
