Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. Some students may be in high school prepping for Solo and Ensemble, or All-State Chorus auditions, or even college auditions. Read More

It's important to have fun while playing music and lessons shouldn't be an exception! During lessons I like to play duets and give small challenges, providing a interactive experience that encourages my students to enjoy the process of improving on their instrument. I expect my students to work hard while practicing and at lessons, though I understand every student learns differently and at a different pace. Ultimately it's the student's decision to become a better musician and I intend to do my best to lead the way. Read More

I have used many different methods over the years and will supplement any method book to meet the individual needs of the student. My preferred method for young students is the FJH Harris Young Beginner's Guitar Method series. For older students I tend to use either Mel Bay or Hal Leonard methods to teach the fundamentals and then add onto them with whatever suits the student best. For advanced students I prefer the William Leavitt methods from Berklee University Press, which will be a challenge for anyone! Read More

My teaching experience dates back to 1995, I have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 25 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of jazz and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the bass guitar and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
