Michael D

Instruments:

When I was six years old, my parents bought a piano and asked if I would like to play. I had no idea what it meant to play music but I answered, "yes!" Later on the electric guitar became interesting, so my Dad bought me a guitar for $75 dollars. Six years later I was offered a college scholarship to study music, and was offered the opportunity to improve my skills as a pianist/guitarist, educator, and composer. As a professional musician, teaching is one of my callings. Making an impact in other people's lives is extremely satisfying to me. My passion is performing my own music with my friends. However, without great teachers and mentors, I would have never made music my career. My commitment is to bring joy and love to each student's life as they study with me. Keeping music fun and playful is my vision. It is the highest honor to become a part of a student's life. Creating new partnerships with families in order to bring about the environment to make music a powerful part of a student's life forever is my primary goal as an educator. Music serves as a key to unlimited personal growth realized by a belief in oneself. I look forward to bringing music into your life.

More Information About Bass Lessons

A standard 4-string bass is a good choice for beginners. Popular brands include Fender, Gibson, and Ibanez. Students who may be interested in hard rock or heavy metal may consider a 5-string bass, which grants access to lower, deeper tones.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons in your home - a smart and simple solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child (and their heavy bass guitar) to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student. Many teachers will recommend a commercial method book or two full of exercises and techniques for practice, and may also bring in many supplemental materials for you to study as well. Topics covered during Musika's bass lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes of the bass, proper fretting, fingering, and plucking technique, how to read music, how to create solid bass lines for rock, pop, jazz, and blues, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the bass!
The bass is a really fun instrument for adults who have no prior experience with music. Students of any age can learn to listen for the bass lines in their favorite songs and learn how to play along.
We recommend starting bass lessons around age 10, and usually no earlier than age 8. Bass strings are thicker and heavier than guitar strings, so the student's hands must be strong enough to fret the notes, and be able to carry the bass comfortably. The bass is a great instrument for teens, and skills learned during lessons can lead students to playing in school Jazz band.
